Seed Resources

At times, folks will ask where we get our seeds from. Honestly, we are trying to save our own seeds as much as possible. Whether you are growing for market, or just growing for the family, it's nice to know where the trusted sources are. We live in an environment with a relatively short growing season. The following list is just our old standbys. Take it or leave it.

Johnny's Selected Seeds

This Maine based company has probably set the standard. High Quality and reliable.

Fedco

Another Maine based company. A super solid, reliable company that certainly specializes in heirloom type seeds. Great prices and zero hype. Very good selection of organic seeds.

Artisan Seeds

Artisan specializes in tomatoes. They are a California based company, but we have grown their cherry tomato offerings in Colorado for years. There tomatoes are beautiful, dependable, and delicious.

MASA Seed Foundation

A Colorado based seed foundation. It is run by a colleague from our Boulder Farmer's Market days named Rich Pecoraro. All of their seed selections would be classified as organic. MASA's seeds are acclimatized to the Front Range of Colorado in particular, and the short season, arid western United States in general!

Native Seeds Search

They have a mission to conserve indigenous seed lines. Very hardy stock.

Strictly Medicinal Seeds

The website/ catalog alone is filled with so much valuable information. If you want to grow medicinal herbs for home use, this is the spot to get some plants or seeds.

Happy Holidays

Hello friends,

We wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of our Holiday offerings for this season.

Once again, we have teamed up our friends at Conscious Coffees for the annual Farmer's Select series. This year is Batch #7 and it is another unwashed (or Natural Process) Yirgacheffe. The 12oz. bags are available for $16.00 while supplies last.

Our soaps are on special through the New Year for $4.00 per bar. Eliza has made 2 new bars for the season. The current shampoo bar features sage, and we have an unscented goat's milk soap. These are in addition to our normal line (Mint, Lemongrass, Lavender, Rosemary, Rocky Mountain and Empress).

Please hit us up if anyone is interested. We can also ship holiday gifts directly to wherever you like.

Thanks for the support this year, and Happy Holidays!

Farmer's Select Batch #6

R.A.S. Farms and Conscious Coffees Present- Farmer's Select Batch #6

Ethiopia Unwashed Yirgacheffe
Hama Co-op (EYU 151)
Kochere District...
Altitude: 2000 to 2500 m
Varietals: Heirloom

During Cooperative Coffees December 2014 visit with the Hama Coop, we committed to supporting the producers' offer to prepare a very special natural processed lot. This is the only unwashed coffee they produced this season and due to the amount of extra work it took, it's uncertain if we will be able to do it again next year, despite paying the highest price we've ever paid for Ethiopia coffee. Coffee farmers committed to picking only the ripest cherries. As the cherries came into the mill each day, they were further sorted so only the deepest red cherries were set out on the drying tables. Drying was carefully monitored over the course of weeks, sheltered from the mid-day peak sun and dried slowly and evenly. The result is a coffee that has similar notes to the washed Yirgacheffe, bergamot, orange zest, floral, however the acidity is rounder, body is deeper, and mouth-feel is fatty like coca butter. The finish has a chocolate-covered raspberry note that lingers.

Available from R.A.S. Farms directly for $17.00 per 12 oz. bag. Paypal and priority shipping are available. Please email rasgariculture@yahoo.com for ordering and more information.
